Individual Travel to/from Madrid Barajas International Airport

 

To Salamanca from Madrid Barajas International Airport

For delegates who do not wish to book optional Congress arrival transfers from Madrid to Salamanca, there are two easily accessible options for making your own way.

By Train:

The trains in Spain are very efficient and easy to use. The train station for transport to Salamanca is Chamartin and is easily assessable from the airport via the underground Metro system.

The Metro operates directly from the Madrid airport with one station for Terminals T1, T2, and T3, and one station for Terminal T4. You may purchase your ticket at the kiosks located at both stations. Be advised that there is a supplemental fee for travel to and from the airport, which must be added to your ticket, the option of which will be available to you at the time you purchase. It will be helpful to pick up a pocket metro guide, which is normally available from Metro staff at each station.

Utilizing the Metro to get to the Charmartin train station:

Board Metro Line #8 in the direction of Nuevos Ministerios. Disembark at Nuevos Ministerios and board Metro Line #10 in the direction of Hospital Infanta Sofia, which will take you to the stop for Chamartin, which is the train station stop.

Trains to Salamanca run approximately every two hours. Ticket prices range from approximately €23-€40 depending upon the train and can be purchased at the Charmartin train station. The attached schedule will give you an idea of the time schedule, however, this is subject to change for the Congress time frame. The travel time by train is approximately 2 ½ – 3 hours, depending upon the train. Upon arrival in Salamanca, there will be taxis available to transport you to the Palacio de Congresos Convention Center, or to your hotel.

By Bus:

Buses run directly from Madrid Barajas International Airport, departing from Terminal T1. You may purchase your ticket in Terminal 1 or Terminal 4 by going to the booth marked “Viajes el Corte Ingles”. There are information kiosks in the airport with staff who can direct you to these ticket purchase points, and to the bus departure point, located in the Terminal 1 parking lot, at the far left as you exit the terminal.

Please note that if you arrive into Terminal T4, you will have to catch an airport shuttle bus (free of charge) for the ride to Terminal T1, as it is some distance from Terminal T4. If you are arriving into Terminals T2 or T3, Terminal T1 is within walking distance, but could prove to be arduous with luggage, so you can also take the complimentary airport shuttle to Terminal T1.

Upon arrival to the Salamanca bus station, there will be taxis available to transport you to Palacio de Congresos convention center, or to your hotel.

 

From Salamanca to Madrid Barajas International Airport

For delegates who do not wish to book optional Congress departure transfers from Salamanca to Madrid Barajas International Airport, there are two easily accessible options for making your own way, by simply reversing the instructions given above.

In brief:

Taxis will be readily available throughout Salamanca. Your hotel can call one up for your transfer to the Salamanca bus station.

By Bus:

You may either purchase a ticket in advance at: http://www/avanzabus.com/web/ or purchase at the Salamanca bus station upon your arrival by taxi. Buses depart approximately every hour and take around 3 hours for the trip to Madrid Barajas International Airport. Tickets are between €20-€25. All buses drop at Terminal T1 and you will need to board the complimentary airport shuttle for Terminals T2, T3, T4, and T4s. Terminals T2 and T3 are within walking distance of Terminal T1, but with luggage it may be more arduous.

By Train:

Taxis will be readily available throughout Salamanca. Your hotel can call one up for your transfer to the Salamanca train station.

You may purchase a ticket in advance at http://www.renfe.com or directly from the train station upon your arrival. Trains take approximately 2 ½ – 3 hours depending upon the train and tickets are priced at approximately €23-€40.

Upon arrival to the Charmartin train station, follow the signs to the Metro and buy a ticket to Madrid Barajas International airport. You must include the airport supplemental fee when paying for your ticket at the kiosk.

Board Metro line #10 in the direction of Puerta Del Sur. Disembark at Nuevos Ministerios and board Metro line #8 in the direction of Aeropuerto. There is a designated stop for Terminals T1, T2, and T3. The last stop on the line is for Terminals T4 and T4S.
