PP-I:  Wilderness in Europe: Re-importing the Wilderness Concept Session 1b PAN Parks European Wilderness Days: civil society for enhancing the protection of Europe’s wilderness: training of a future generation

Objective – Presenting examples on what civil society initiatives exist in Europe in order to enhance the protection of wilderness across the continents. There will be both international and national examples from various regions of Europe.

PP-II:     Wilderness in Europe: Session 2b Pan Parks European Wilderness Days: Best practice management examples of European areas protecting wilderness

Objective – this session will look into practical examples from Europe how to ‘manage’ existing wilderness areas and how to restore wilderness attributes across the continent, which most people would consider the most modified landscape. The speeches will include an introduction also to how to define wilderness and what guidance are available for protected area managers

PP-III:     Wilderness entrepreneurship: Session 1L PAN Parks European Wilderness Days: Businesses for wilderness (tourism companies)

Objective – The concept of Payment for Ecosystem Services penetrated into the financial and policy discussions, but yet led to little changes on the ground, and there is still a lack of examples of non-use benefits of ecosystem services. This session will look into the example of how the European tourism sector can support wilderness protection with generating extra funding and beyond.
